Title: The Glowing Desert (in progress).

Material: Acrylic paint marker, gesso, artificial plants, foam, furniture.

Year: 2020

Description:

This project represents fantasy, reality and simulation. It reflects a sense of awe and confusion about the environment in which we live and the complex world of artifice. The desert, through obsessiveness of drawn line or pattern and scale invites viewers to take part in a thoughtful examination of the relationship between the artificial and the natural in our lives. It slows our understanding of the real and immerses us in an imagined possibility.

Every drawn line is hand-made and cascades around the object in every nook and cranny to encapsulate it and form a tangible, three-dimensional drawn object.  Each part of the installation is an artificialreplication of its the real counterpart: Cacti made of foam, plants made of silk/ paper/ metal, rocks cast in paper-machè, ground made of dyed black sand. Each object is primed white as a drawing surface and marked with black acrylic paint markers. Every drawn line is hand-made and cascades around the object in every nook and cranny to encapsulates it and form a tangible, three-dimensional drawn object. The objects transform into monuments to theobsessiveness of the process. Audiences are challenged to change alter their perception of space and time when experiencing the full immersive installation and to appreciate a space that has transformed from a two-dimensional world to three.
